The Conduct Committee is responsible for investigating violations of the LEA’s Code of Conduct and making recommendations for action to the Board. You can email the Conduct Committee at LEAconduct@gmail.com.
The LEA Conduct Committee is comprised of volunteers vetted by our community. It was formed to ensure a non-biased way to investigate violations of our Code of Conduct at LEA events.
Please see the Conduct Committee Purpose and Procedure for more details.
Conduct Committee FAQ
This FAQ is one of our Guiding Documents
Who can report a problem?
Anyone who was directly affected by or witnessed behaviour that was dangerous or harmful to you or others can submit a report.
What sort of problem can I report?
Actions or behaviours at LEA events and initiatives can be reported, such as those which:
- May be harmful to you or others
- Makes you feel afraid or threatened
- Could endanger the LEA’s ability to continue to hold events
- Violations of the LEA’s Code of Conduct
Outside of LEA events, incidents where police charges have been laid may be considered as grounds to deny an individual entrance to an LEA event.
Incidents that occur outside LEA events may be reported to establish a pattern of behaviour, but will not be considered ‘actionable’. In other words, the Conduct Committee will only record them for purposes of establishing a pattern of behavior.
Who can I make a report about?
Anyone whose behaviour causes you concern. All reports will be handled equitably regardless of who is involved or their role.
When can I report a problem?
We encourage all participants to make reports as they occur at events to Rangers. If that is not possible, reports can be submitted at any time through the online Incident Report Form. Reports will be taken seriously and handled appropriately, regardless of when they are made.
How do I report a problem?
Incident reports at LEA events should be reported to an on-duty Ranger. Rangers will write up the details of the incident and pass on to the Conduct Committee following the event.
Outside of LEA events, incident reports can be submitted by using the online Incident Report Form. If you have questions about submitting a report, please email LEAconduct@gmail.com.
What will happen when I make a report?
The Conduct Committee will conduct an inquiry into your report. This could involve conducting interviews with you, the subject of the report, witnesses, event organizers, and rangers involved in the incident report; and then making recommendations for action to the LEA Board of Directors. If you are making a report on behalf of someone else, i.e. a 3rd party report, be aware the Conduct Committee will need to interview all parties, and without that, it is unlikely a report will be actionable.
You will be informed of any action the Board takes in connection with your report.
What can result from making a report?
After conducting an inquiry, the Conduct Committee can make one of the following recommendations of action to the Board.
- Provide an official warning
- Bar a participant from volunteering in particular capacities or in any capacity
- Suspend from LEA events for either one year or ban permanently
- Archive the information and recommend no action
The Board reserves the right to take the following actions at any time:
- Request that someone who is causing problems change their behavior in the form of an official warning
- Prevent someone from volunteering in particular capacities or in any capacity
- Revoke access to some or all events
- Revoke tickets to events
- Involve venue security
- Involve local law enforcement
- Deny access to LEA events temporarily or indefinitely
- Choose not to take action
While some of these actions may be taken by event organizers at the time an incident occurs, others may result from investigations and discussions undertaken by the Board and Conduct Committee. We will do our best to balance the needs of all involved parties and the needs of the event when they conflict.
Can my report be anonymous?
We will not reveal your identity or details without your explicit consent in order to obtain information about the incident or take action related to the incident. See our confidentiality policy for more details.
We will not take any sort of retaliatory action against you for reporting, or not reporting, a problem in good faith.
We will not make a recommendation for action without interviewing the subject of the report.
What will happen if someone makes a report about me?
While we will always err on the side of safety and treating all reports as true, we will not assume that a report being made automatically means that action needs to be taken.
The Conduct Committee will receive the incident report form and assign two members to undertake the investigation process. They will contact you and explain in detail what the possible outcomes are as well as next steps. The CC members will also interview witnesses and the reporter. The Conduct Committee will not recommend the Board take any action without first interviewing you. You will be informed of any action the Board takes in connection with the report, including taking no action. If after interviewing you the Conduct Committee determines that no violation occurred, we will inform you that no action will be recommended to the board.
If someone deliberately makes a false report about you, we will take appropriate action in response.
